About PennyLane
PennyLane Lightning is Xanadu’s high-performance simulator suite for the PennyLane ecosystem. PennyLane is one of the most widely used quantum frameworks, and surveys report that nearly a third of quantum developers use it. Lightning’s core is written in C++ for speed, it is open source under the Apache 2.0 license, and it installs alongside PennyLane itself, so it is the high-performance simulator most PennyLane developers already have. On Open Quantum, Lightning’s CPU state vector is the default, alongside PennyLane’s built-in default.qubit, default.mixed, and default.clifford devices. Submit circuits from any supported framework, then run the same code, unchanged, on real QPUs when you are ready.
Configuring PennyLane
Options you can set when you create a job on PennyLane.
engineWhich PennyLane device runs your circuit, all on CPU: the Lightning state vector (lightning.qubit, the default), the default state vector (default.qubit), mixed state (default.mixed, a density matrix for noisy circuits), or Clifford (default.clifford, only correct for Clifford circuits).
Running PennyLane on Open Quantum
Free during beta
Simulators run on the Public Compute tier with no credits used while in beta. Prototype and debug as much as you need before spending anything on real hardware.
See all simulatorsOne API, every framework
Submit circuits in Qiskit, PennyLane, Cirq, Qrisp, or OpenQASM. Open Quantum handles the translation, so the same code runs here and on every QPU.
Explore the frameworksThe same circuit runs on real QPUs
Circuits you run here can then go to real QPUs from IonQ, Rigetti, IQM, and AQT, with the same code, unchanged.

Prototype free, prove it on real QPUs
Start on PennyLane with no credits, then run the same circuit on real hardware with $50 of free quantum compute.
